About this Site
This Web site, a student project in the American Studies graduate program of Penn State Harrisburg, integrates the digitized text of A Guide to the Keystone State with Google Maps to create a unique visual resource—one that allows users to better see the connections between the perspectives of the writers and the landscape that inspired their compositions.
Nearly 500 pages of the guide are made up of detailed descriptions of Pennsylvania's cities, towns and points of interest from the late 1930's. Beyond providing a map and search engine to access the text, the tour entries are presented in a way that allows users to annotate the information with either a text comment or by uploading images and documents.
Currently under development, text from the guide will be made available in three phases: the tours from Part III, cities and towns from Part II and the essays from Part I.
